Rick Rack Hand

I haven't sewn a hand in a while now, so I had to break out the sewing machine. I love working with rick rack on all types of crafts. It adds such a cute aspect to crafts.

Beet It, Beet It

I absolutely LOVE beets. I think I love them because they taste earthy. I love going to the Farmer's Market and searching all the booths looking for the best produce. ( I also love Michael Jackson!)

Frisbee Hand

I hurried and cut this frisbee hand because we are going to the Drive In Movies tonight. I wanted to cut a frsibee, but I was afraid it wouldn't fly. Surprisingly, it does fly. I tried it with my dog, but he wasn't too into it. If it is not made out of a cow, chicken or pig, he is not interested.

My Shell Hand

One of my nicknames has been My Shell. I think it is cute. I don't mind being called Shell, but if you call me Shelly, you might be sorry! This is a Plaster of Paris hand that has seashells inlaid in it and covered in sand.

Hands As Cold As Ice

I made these hands using my mold too. It is too much fun! (Is it weird that I am having so much fun with a mold I made? Don't answer that) Just water in the mold and ice cold hands!

Hand Soap

That title has a double meaning. Yes, the soap can be used for your hands and it is in the shape of a hand. How Funny! I have been having a great time with my new hand mold I made, trying to figure out what I can mold. Some with success, some without. Maybe more molded hands tomorrow...

Fingers A' Flamin'

It has now been 3 months since I started my project!! Wow, I am 1/4 of the way done! Crazy how time goes by so fast and so slow at the same time!

Today I made a hand candle. I first made a mold from one of my many hand chachkies I have. I then threaded wicks down through the fingers, poured wax into the mold, let it cool and voila- a hand candle. It was hard getting it out of the mold so the thumb did crack a bit, but with the wick, it stayed attached. My sister thinks it is pretty creepy, and ya it is a bit, but I am not doing any Voo Doo with it, it is just fun. Maybe I will make a bunch for Halloween!

Wheat Hand

Happy Pioneer Day!! I love Pioneer Day and kind of wish I would have lived back then, minus the trek across America. I made today's hand out of wheat in honor of the pioneers. I heard the first thing the pioneers did when they entered the Salt Lake Valley was to plant a garden/fields. Crazy! I would have taken a long, long nap!

Cat Tail Hand

In honor of Pioneer Day coming up tomorrow, I wanted to make a hand out of cat tails. I just laid them out in the shape of the fingers. I didn't know how to make a palm and today was extremely busy and tiring!! My family, myself and two cutie pie boys (don't worry, they are just 7 and 3) went with us to the This Is The Place Heritage Park. I absolutely love going there! I want to build my own Pioneer house in my backyard/farm I am going to have later in life. I even did a bit of goat wrangling today! Great time at the Park!

Canvas Hand Art

I have followed a blog called "Crap I've Made" for a while now and she comes up with great ideas. She made a canvas art piece with this technique just a few days ago so it inspired me to make one too. I started with a plain canvas and decoupaged pictures of hands over the whole piece. I then made a stencil of the hands, taped them to the top and painted over the whole canvas. By the way, I hand painted it, I thought that would be appropriate. After the paint had dried, I pealed off the hand stencil, sanded over the paint, rubbed colored chalk over randomly and then splattered pink and white paint over the top of everything. This has been so much fun trying new techniques I haven't done before and probably never would have done had I not been doing this. I am also so grateful for talented people that inspire me in new ways.

Pine Hand

While I was on my nightly run (well I try to make it nightly), I was brainstorming what hand to make tonight. I looked over and saw a hand waving back to me from a little pine tree. I was wanting to make a hand out of pine branches, but couldn't figure out how. This one was great for it.

Rawhide Hand

I love my little puppy, Brodie. I had to include him in one of my hand projects. I made these hands out of rawhide. It actually came as a mistake on how I could form the rawhide. I put a load of laundry in the wash and when I took it out to put in the dryer, a mysterious rawhide had made it's way into my clothes, Yuck! Brodie loves hiding his treats everywhere including my clothes. When I got the rawhide out, it was soft and pliable so I figured I could mold and cut it into a hand shape. Wala. Here they are. Brodie actually was going crazy while I was making these hands. He could smell them and knew they were for him. He is such a smartie!!

Hand Dress

I made this dress a few weeks ago but never took a picture, so after wearing it to church, I finally took a picture. I made the dress, yes I made the dress. I didn't have the nerve to splatter paint on a dress I paid some money for so I used some fabric we already had. I made a huge hand stencil out of freezer paper, ironed it on the dress and splattered the dress with black paint around the perimeter of the hand. I did the splatter in my room, big mistake, so I now have black splatter paint on my white wall. Yep, I am a genius!

"Yay, You have a Whirly Bird Hand!"

My Grandma Bahl says she has a special memory about every grandchild and great grandchild. The memory she has of my sister, Melanie, has to do with whirly birds. My Grandparents moved back to Utah from Denver and when our family went over to help them move in, my sister saw the huge tree in their backyard and with great enthusiasm, she stated "Yay, you have a whirly bird tree!" That whirly bird tree caused a bunch of grief for my Grandpa. He, being extremely OCD, would count each and every whirly bird that fell from that tree, make a tally sheet and inform us all of how many whirly birds he picked up that year. Ah, thanks for the great genes, Pops!!

Interestingly, the memory my Grandma has about me has to do with her hands. Go figure! I used to sit on her lap and play with the veins that poked up on her hands. I just made that realization a few days ago that her memory is about hands. I guess my hand fetish started when I was just a wee thing. I find it really interesting. Like I say, I was born to sign!!!

Millefiori Hands

I used to make these kind of beads all the time. I would make figurines, beads and all kinds of things out of Polymer clay when I was younger so I had to use the clay for my project. I always make a ton of them so along with the beads, I made a votive candle holder as well.

Licorice Hand

Mmmmmm, Green Apple Licorice. This licorice is so good but you can only find it at sporting/hunting/fishing stores. Is that what guys do when they are out in the wilderness bonding? Eat cool candy? Well if it is, sign me up!!!

Marzi"Hand"

I got into Marzipan (Almond Paste) quite a few years ago. I saw a cake on Martha Stewart that they made a garden on top of a carrot cake with marzipan vegetables. I made that cake for my birthday. It seems to be a reoccurring theme that I make my own birthday cakes.

Hand Sucker

I made this hand out of candy sticks. I warmed them up in the oven and then formed them into a hand. It is kind of hard, not letting the candy stay in the oven too long so it melts away and forming hot sugar with your hands.

Pez Hand Dispenser

Even though I didn't post yesterday, I still made this hand. My Internet was down and was unable to go online to post. I promise, I did make a hand yesterday.

I took a Mater (from "Cars") Pez dispenser, broke him off and then made a hand out of Sculpey clay. It is kind of realistic and kind of creepy, but I love hands so it works for me.

Thumb Sucker

I used the Hand mold I got again; but instead of chocolate, I made suckers. They are apple flavored but not very strong. I remember when I was in elementary school, lots of kids would sell homemade suckers and all the cool kids would buy them. I didn't buy many, wish I could have bought more. Was it like this at any other schools, or was East Layton Elementary just super cool?

Sticky Hands

This week I have decided is Candy Week. Yesterday was chocolate and today is Cotton Candy. I used store bought candy so it isn't as fluffy and light as cotton candy from the fair, but it is still fun and tasty! Cotton Candy always seems to get your hands so sticky so that is why I titled this as "Sticky Hands". Sticky but good!

Melts in your Hand and your mouth

I went to Orson Gygi yesterday and miraculously found candy hand molds. They had a ton of them and the hands were the only shape they had. Must of had a blow out sale at some candy making supply company and only hands were left. Happy me! Chocolate is hard to work with though. I bought some candy melts hoping they would work better and not turn white like regular chocolate, but I was wrong.

Stepping Stone Hand

I shaped and made this stepping stone last night outside. I didn't have a hand shaped form (go figure!) so I formed wet sand into a hand shape and then poured the cement into that. I laid the rocks around the hand, I was going to use glass bobbles in too, but it just looked funny. Well, since I made this hand outside last night, and if you live in Northern Utah, you know we had a really bad rain storm last night. The instructions say not to move your stepping stone for at least 24 hours. Well, when the rain began to fall, it had only been a few hours but I had to move it. Needless to say, we had some phalange fatalities. All but the thumb broke off. I will try to glue or cement them back on and possibly try another one later. Anyways, it was still fun to make and is now waving proudly in our weed, I mean, flower bed.

Spirograph Hand

Do you remember Spirograph? I had a blast playing with it when I was little. I was surprised we still had it, I could still do it and the pens still worked. It took a bit to figure out which pieces to use and what shape they would make and how to position the pieces to draw the hand.

Bottle Cap Hand

I have been collecting bottle caps for a few years now after I saw a girl with a purse once that was made out of bottle caps. It was really cute and wanted to duplicate it for myself. My collection is growing very slowly. Many of these though I have collected during my travels. A lot are from Greece and Thailand, some which came from bottles of soy milk we fed to baby elephants.

Fingerprint Hand

This is a tiny fingerprint from my finger. It took multiple times to get the correct print and grooves. I now have permanent hands on my fingers. Great for signing!!!

A Winning Hand

This is a full deck of cards that I cut on a die cutter in the shape of hands. It took a while to cut out 54 cards (jokers included) but it definitely didn't take as long if I had hand cut them all.

Hands Across America

This hand is the same idea as my other America hands. I saw an art piece like this and had to duplicate it. The stripes in the flag move out in the shape of hands to form the sign of America. It was a really fun art piece to make.

Sparkler Hand

In honor of the 4th of July, I had to make a hand using sparklers. Sparklers were always my favorite growing up. They were the only fireworks kids could play with. They were a bit scary at times, having fire so close to your body, but maybe that was the thrill of them. Of course, I would draw my name and shapes in the air until the light had burned my retinas; kind of like now. I am seeing sparkler hands everywhere!!

Americana Hands

These are my hands painted in American colors. My hands are formed into the sign for America. The fingers are linked together just like we all are in America. People from other lands, coming together to work towards a common goal. The sign also moves in a circular motion encompassing the whole land of America. I love this sign and it was really fun having my hands painted and used for one of my projects. Thanks Melanie for being my painter and photographer.

Light Sensitive Hand

I have never used this kind of paper before- Light Sensitive Paper. It was really kind of cool. You lay whatever you want to make the image on the paper and then put it out in the sun for a minute or so. I did it at around noon today and it didn't take any time at all. The color actually changes in the sun. You put it in some water, like other photo paper, and it changes to the opposite color. It was fun and maybe will make some more prints. The one picture is my actual hand.
